USDA Announces Authorization of D-SNAP to Guam

Low-income residents impacted by Typhoon Mawar are eligible for relief.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that low-income residents of Guam affected by Super Typhoon Mawar may be eligible for assistance through the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP). Approximately 29,000 households that would not ordinarily qualify for regular Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits may qualify for D-SNAP if they meet specific criteria, which include disaster-related expenses.

“USDA is committed to making sure that those affected by Super Typhoon Mawar get the food they need,” said Agriculture Secretary Vilsack. “Helping residents of Guam get back on their feet is a top priority, and we will continue working to expedite access to USDA’s nutrition assistance programs.”

The USDA has also implemented various measures to assist Guam residents, along with waiver extensions for ongoing SNAP households, mass replacements for lost benefits, and flexibility regarding reporting requirements for food purchased with SNAP benefits affected by power outages.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Vilsack as he implements disaster-related food assistance programs.
  • For the residents of Guam who are endeavoring to recover from the typhoon.
